Definition of Account Stated
An admission of a sum of money being due from one person to another, who are under no duty to account to each other, from which a promise to pay is implied by law ; e.g., an IOU. It is not necessarily binding : it may be shown to have been given in mistake, or for a debt for which the consideration has failed or was illegal
