Definition of Ambiguity
A double meaning. A patent ambiguity is one which is apparent on the face of the instrument, as where a blank is left. A latent ambiguity is one, not apparent on the face of the instrument, as where a testator bequeaths property to his cousin John Jones, and it is proved that he had two cousins so named.
