Attorney-General V. Brown in Europe
Definition of Attorney-General V. Brown
([1920] 1 K. B. 77). By section 43 of the Customs Consolidation Act, 1876, “The importation of arms, ammunition, gunpowder, or any other goods may be prohibited by Proclamation or Order in Council.” The importation of chemicals was prohibited by Proclamation, except under licence. Held, that the doctrine cjusdem generis must be applied, and that chemicals were not included in the category of prohibited goods, and the Proclamation was therefore invalid
