Definition of Bottomry
A bond entered into by the owner of a ship or his agent, whereby, in consideration of a sum of money advanced for the use of the ship, the borrower undertakes to repay the same with interest if the ship terminate her voyage successfully, the debt being lost in case of the non-arrival of the ship. It binds or hypothecates the ship and freight, or the cargo
