Description of Communitisation

The Concise Encyclopedia of the European Union describes communitisation in the following terms: [1] The act of transferring a policy area from the control of the member states to that of the Community’s institutions. There is no word for a transfer of powers in the opposite direction, an eventuality prohibited by the doctrine of the acquis communautaire.
