Community Method in Europe
Description of Community method
The Concise Encyclopedia of the European Union describes community method in the following terms: [1] The principle that the EU should formulate guidelines, ‘be associated’ or instigate common action in areas where the initiative was formerly reserved to the member states, such as foreign and security policy and judicial co-operation. The ‘Community method’ is often regarded as a first step towards full ‘communitisation’.
