Definition of Company

An association of persons formed for the purpose of some business or undertaking carried on in the name of the association, each member having the right of assigning his shares to any other person, subject to the regulations of the company
An incorporated company is a corporation formed for the purpose of carrying on a business for profit. Such companies are incorporated either (1) by charter ; (2) by special Act of Parliament ; or (3) by registration under one of the public general Acts relating to companies
Companies are limited or unlimited, according as the liability of their shareholders is or is not limited. In the case of an unlimited company, each shareholder is liable to contribute to the debts of the company to the full extent of his property
Joint stock companies are those having a joint stock or capital which is divided into numerous transferable shares, or consist of transferable stock
A private company is one which (a) restricts the right to transfer its shares ; (6) limits the number of its members to fifty ; and (c) prohibits any invitation to the public to subscribe for any shares or debentures of the company. Any two or more persons may form or carry on a private company, whereas it takes seven to form or carry on a public company
The law relating to companies is codified in the Companies (Consolidation) Act, 1908
