Provisions relating to demanding excessive fees in the German Criminal Code [1]: This criminal issue is covered by Chapter Thirty, under the heading “Offences Committed in Public Office,” located in Section 352 Demanding excessive fees, which reads: (1) If a public official, attorney or other person rendering legal assistance who charges fees or other compensation for the discharge of official functions, charges fees or compensation which he knows are not due to him at all or only to a lesser amount shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding one year or a fine. (2) The attempt shall be punishable.
