Definition of Distress
The act of taking moveable property out of the possession of a wrongdoer, to compel the performance of an obligation, or to procure satisfaction for a wrong committed: a mode of legal “self help,’” f.f;., distraining for rent due, or cattle damage feasant, i. e., straying on land and doing damage
