The Concise Encyclopedia of the European Union describes green parties in the following terms: [1] At the national level, European concern about the environment has been reflected in the emergence of Green political parties, especially in Germanyand Sweden. The German Greens, divided between pragmatic ‘realos’ and fundamentalist ‘fundis’, are potentially powerful enough to act as kingmakers in domestic coalition governments, and also comprise a sizeable minority among German MEPs. In the European Parliament, some of the Greens are allied with the far left.
