Definition of Law Report
A published account of a legal proceeding, giving a statement of the facts, the arguments on both sides, and the reasons the Court gave for its judgment. Reports by barristers are cited in argument as precedents. Regular law reporting appears to have commenced in the thirteenth century with the Year Books (q.v.). In 1865 the Council of Law Reporting commenced a series of reports covering all the superior Courts, known as the Law Reports. See Judicial Proceedings (etc.) Act, 1926
