Definition of Masters In Chancery

They were assistants of the Lord Chancellor, and of the Master of the Rolls. They eat in chambers for the discharge of functions which were partly ministerial and partly judicial. The Court of Chancery Act, 1852, abolished the Masters and provided for the appointment of eight Chief Clerks (q.v.)
