Definition of Militia

The force which was raised after the Restoration of ,1660 as a substitute for those which had been raised under the commissions of array and lieutenancy, superseded by the Territorial Forces prior to the War. The Territorial Army and Militia Act, 1921, enacted that the Army Reserve previously called the ” Special Reserve ” shall be called the Militia
