Because purchasers. The statute 18 Eclw. 1, c. 1 the Statute of Westminster III which commences with these words. It enacted that every freeman shall be at liberty to sell his lands, but that the purchaser shall hold them of the chief lord and not of his feoffor. The statute, therefore abolished subinfeudation (q.v.), and made the future creation of manors, etc., impossible
