Third Reading in Europe

Third Reading in the European Parliament and in the Council

Content about Third Reading from the publication “The ABC of European Union law” (2010, European Union) by Klaus-Dieter Borchardt.

If, within the six-week period, the Conciliation Committee approves a joint text, the European Parliament, acting by a majority of the votes cast, and the Council, acting by a qualified majority, each have a period of six weeks from that approval in which to adopt the act in question in accordance with the joint text. If they fail to do so, the proposed act is deemed not to have been adopted and the legislative process is ended.
