Violation of Duties of Care or Education in Germany

Provisions relating to violation of duties of care or education in the German Criminal Code [1]: This criminal issue is covered by Chapter Twelve, under the heading “Offences Related to the Personal Status Registry, Marriage and the Family,” located in Section 171 Violation of duties of care or education, which reads: Whosoever grossly neglects his duty to provide care or education for a person under the age of sixteen and thereby creates a danger that the persons physical or mental development could be seriously damaged, that the person will engage in crime or in prostitution, shall be liable to imprisonment of not more than three years or a fine.
