Definition of Traverse
To deny an allegation of fact. If a plaintiff replies by simply joining issue on the statement of defence he traverses, that is, denies, all the material allegations in the defence. See Order XIX, r. 18.
Traverse of office or inquisition is a mode by which a subject can, in certain cases, dispute an office or inquisition finding the Crown entitled to property claimed by him
