Definition of Labourers, Statute Of
The statute 23 Edw. 3, passed in 1349 after about half the population had died of the Black Death. It enacted that everyone under sixty, except traders, craftsmen, those with private means and landowners, should work for anyone willing to employ them at the wages paid from 1340 to 1346. It was repealed by the Statute Law Revision Act, 1863
