Definition of Attornment

The agreement by the tenant of land, e.g., a lessee, to hold his land from the transferee of the owner of the fee, or reversion. He is said to attorn tenant to the new reversioner. The necessity for attornment was abolished by 4 & 5 Anne, c. 16. By section 151, Law of Property Act, 1925, the conveyance of a reversion is valid without attornment, and attornment without the lessor’s consent is void
