Definition of Conversion

I. In equity, conversion is the national change of land into money, or money into land. See Eeconversion ; Fletcher v. Ashburner; Ackroyd v. Smithson; Eicherson, Re
II. At common law, conversion is that tort which is committed by a person who deals with chattels not belonging to him in a manner which is inconsistent with the rights of the lawful owner. See Fouldes v. Willoughby ; Hollins v. Fowler
