Definition of Hue And Cry
The old common law process of pursuing, with horn and with voice, all felons and such as have dangerously wounded another. All those who join in a hue and cry are justified in apprehending the person pursued, even though it should turn out that he is innocent. Maliciously or wantonly to raise a hue and cry is a misdemeanour and grounds for a civil action.
