King’s Counsel in Europe
Definition of King’s Counsel
Barristers “learned in the law” appointed counsel to His Majesty. They wear silk gowns, sit within the bar, and take precedence in Court over ” utter barristers ” (i. e., outer barristers). They must not be employed in any cause against the Crown (e.g., in defending a prisoner) without special licence
