Definition of Lunatic

Defined by the Lunacy Act, 1890, s. 341, as ” an idiot or person of unsound mind.” The word is used to denote (1) a person who has attacks of intermittent insanity separated by lucid intervals, or suffers from delusions ; (2) a person who from unsoundness of mind is incapable of managing himself or his affairs, and has been found so by inquisition ; and (3) a person detained in an asylum on account of unsoundness of mind.
