Definition of Outstanding

The legal estate in land is said to be outstanding when it has been conveyed to a mortgagee, and has not been reconveyed to the mortgagor when the mortgage debt has been cleared off. Similarly an outstanding term is a term of years which has not come to an end although the purpose for which it was created has been realised
