Naturalization in Europe
Definition of Naturalization
Takes place when a person becomes the subject of a State to which he was before an alien. An alien who has resided for not less than five years in the United Kingdom, or who has been for that period in the service of the Crown within the last eight years, and is of good character, and has an adequate knowledge of the English language, and intends to continue such residence or service, may on application to the Home Secretary and after taking the oath of allegiance, be granted a certificate of naturalization at discretion. (British Nationality and Status of Aliens Acts, 1914, 1918, s. 2.)
