Definition of Treasury
Or the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury. The Department of the Government which administers the revenue of the State in accordance with the votes of the House of Commons. The financial head of the Treasury is the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Prime Minister usually holds the office of First Lord of the Treasury. The junior Lords of the Treasury are the whips of the political party in power. The Secretary of the Treasury is the head of the permanent Civil Service. See Exchequer
