Definition of Release
(1) ” The giving or discharging of the right or action which a man hath or may have or claim against another man or that which is his.” When trustees or executors have wound up an estate they usually require a release from the persons beneficially entitled before handing over or dividing it, in order to clear themselves of responsibility. A release may take the form of a covenant not to sue. (2) The discharge by a person of his interest in land in favour of the person in possession, thus vesting the entire legal estate in the possessor. See Lease and Eelease
